La Sittelle et le Rouge-gorge

 Sitta europaea     &     Erithacus rubecula
  Sittidae                      Muscicapidae

European nuthatch and European robin
I enjoy seeing to different birds close to each other: 2 things can happen! One can chase off the other and in this case the nuthatch would be the winner or they totally ignore each other minding their own business!!

VOLEUSE !!!!
THIEF !!!!

MDR!!!)

The Robin is moody alright, but he befriends everyone, he is.... politically correct!
(Gosh, I hate this expression! LOL!!!)

  3. I hate the expression "politically correct" too, Noushka! Right now I'm hearing the debate on TV over Charlie Hebdo going too far with its latest publication and that we need limit free speech out of respect for religion and not feed the craziness. I'm ashamed that people are not standing up for freedom of speech, and claiming it is to protect the common good. Especially in light of recent events in our world. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox.

I've been catching up and learned something about the black-crowned night heron. I have only seen a few, and they always were hunched ~ I didn't realize that they had necks that could be stretched out. Of course, now that that fact has hit me, and I think about herons, I'm wondering how I didn't think that they did have necks that stretch out. Your photos of them are amazing, as are your kites and robins and nuthatches.

I watched the video on the whales which was visually beautiful and informative. However, I think the film left out a very important point. It discussed how whales increase plankton in the ocean, and how plankton remove carbon from the atmosphere, but it failed to mention that plankton may produce as much as half of the world's oxygen ~ the other side of the photosynthesis process.

Have a great week, my friend; I look forward to your beautiful photos!

  5. Wonderful series, Nouska. Too bad I have never seen an European nuthatch myself. I didn't know that he also eats peanuts. Great to see. This weekend we had our national bird counting in the Netherlands. The Sparrow ended at the first place. The Robin on the ninth place. Have a nice evening. Greetings from the Netherlands, Joke

  10. Bonsoir Noushka,

  12. These are both wonderful birds and I am glad that they are getting along! I couldn't even begin to count the times I have seen a nuthatch going headfirst down a trunk but it still fascinates me. That is why we all love nature so much; the ordinary never becomes mundane.
